Disability & Accessibility
We are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive environment where all pupils, staff, parents/carers and visitors feel valued, supported and able to participate fully in school life. We recognise and respect the diverse educational, physical, sensory, social, emotional and spiritual needs of our school community.
We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity, challenging discrimination and fostering a culture of awareness, respect and inclusion throughout the school.
Supporting Accessibility and Inclusion
We have an Accessibility Plan in place and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to improve access to the school environment, curriculum and wider school activities in order to meet individual needs. Our policies and practices are in line with the Equality Act 2010. Please refer to our Accessibility Plan and Accessibility Policy for further information.
Our Accessibility Plan helps to ensure that pupils, staff, parents/carers and visitors with disabilities are able to access school buildings, facilities and learning opportunities as fully as possible.
When a pupil joins the school with an identified special educational need or disability (SEND), we work closely with families, staff and relevant professionals to ensure appropriate support and reasonable adjustments are in place. Information is shared with relevant staff to help ensure pupils are fully supported throughout their time in school.
Where appropriate, we seek guidance and support from external agencies and provide staff training linked to individual pupil needs. Whenever possible, this training is completed prior to transition to support a smooth and successful start at school.
The facilities and support available to improve accessibility are outlined in our Accessibility Plan, which can be found in the School Policies section of our website.
Our Accessibility Plan is reviewed annually to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of our school community. A new Accessibility Plan is produced every three years, with short, medium and long-term actions reviewed and updated as appropriate.
The Accessibility Plan includes actions to:
- improve access to the physical environment of the school, including the addition of specialist facilities and adaptations where appropriate;
- increase access to the curriculum for pupils with disabilities, including reasonable adjustments to teaching and learning, specialist resources and equipment, and access to the wider curriculum such as educational visits, enrichment activities and after-school clubs;
- improve the accessibility of information for pupils, staff, parents/carers and visitors with disabilities, with information provided in a range of accessible formats within a reasonable timeframe where required.
We are committed to continually reviewing and improving accessibility across all aspects of school life so that every member of our community feels included, supported and able to participate fully.
