Residential Edu-care Offer at Walworth School

For some children with special educational needs an extended day or residential boarding placement can offer the right balance of education, support and stability that will then allow them to make academic progress and develop socially.

Walworth School offers up to 30 residential places available on a flexible boarding basis.  Children will attend the school as a day pupil, benefiting from the expertise and support we offer whilst the residential offer provides a warm and welcoming environment that allows for the development of positive relationships with peers and adults. The dedicated staff team create a family atmosphere where shared experiences provide opportunities for personal development and a sense of belonging.

Identified children will have the opportunity to stay as an extended day pupil or boarding pupil in our residential unit and return to their home setting at weekends and school holidays.  Our strong ethos and co-ordinated approach sees school and residential care staff work closely with parents and carers to enable each child to develop into confident, independent and ambitious young citizens.

The approach has a strong focus on enriching each child’s social and communication skills which enables them to make friends, engage in new activities and experiences, and move forward with an ambition to discover and learn. The school and residential care staff teams both support and positively challenge each child to widen their scope of life experiences and encourage them to experiment and undertake fresh challenge, which ultimately results in them improving their knowledge, skills and ability. Every pupil is guided by experienced and empathetic staff who will be able to plan and adapt to ensure pupils achieve and succeed in the environment.

We aim to provide pupils with opportunities so that they can achieve outcomes in education health and care plans and make progress with their emotional wellbeing and social development. The teaching, support and residential care staff team at Walworth are an integral part of reaching this aim as the expertise and drive of our staff ensure pupils access a range of programmes so that they can flourish and enjoy learning in our inspiring environment.

All pupils can potentially become resident at the school. A place is agreed after discussion between pupil, parents and staff to identify why residence would be beneficial.

Please see the Weekly Activity Schedule Morning and Weekly Activity Schedule Evening which is implemented and discussed by residential staff each week.  If you would like to speak to a member of the residential staff team call us on 01325 372244.

Our Independent Listeners

Our independent listener is Kathleen Graham who visits the school on a weekly basis.

An independent listener is an adult who builds up over time a healthy and child focused relationship which aims to support the young person to grow in confidence, feel valued & listened. Details on how to contact our independent listeners are available in the Acorn House Booklet and displayed in Acorn House.
