General Information

The first summer half term will focus on the themes “Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds” and “We Can Do Hard Things.” Children will explore how spending time outdoors and connecting with nature can support both their physical health and emotional wellbeing.

Throughout the unit, pupils will participate in a variety of outdoor learning experiences, including working in the allotment, contributing to the Walworth Echo Sensory Project, and exploring Walworth Woods. These hands-on opportunities will help children develop an understanding of the positive impact that nature can have on health, wellbeing, confidence, and resilience.

The unit will also explore the importance of healthy eating. Children will learn about foods that provide energy, support concentration, and contribute to a balanced lifestyle, as well as considering how different foods can affect how we feel and function throughout the day.

During the second half-term, we will stay with ‘We can do hard things’, but also link in ‘Social Communication’ and ‘Dealing with Feelings’ the focus will shift to transitions—what they are, why they happen, and the range of emotions they can bring. Children will have opportunities to reflect on their own experiences of change, explore strategies for managing worries and uncertainty, and identify the support networks available to help them navigate transitions successfully.

To conclude this fantastic year in the DEN, the children will take part in a seaside-themed celebration. This special event will provide an opportunity to reflect on their achievements, celebrate the progress they have made throughout the year, and say farewell to those moving on to secondary school. It will be a chance to recognise the resilience, growth, and accomplishments of all the children as they complete another successful year of Nurture at Walworth!
