School Holidays

Please select the document below to view our school holidays, including staff training days.

Please visit the Durham County Council website to view or download the school holidays dates for this academic year and next year for all community schools, special schools and voluntary controlled schools. Please note that voluntary aided (church) schools, foundation schools and academies may have set different dates and you should check with the school or academy to confirm their arrangements or view the PDF for schools not following the standard term and holiday dates.

School Holidays During Term Time

The Government has amended regulations for taking holidays in term time and these new regulations come into effect from September 2013.

Head teachers have the discretion to grant leave, but they should only do so in exceptional circumstances. If a head teacher grants a leave request, it will be for them to determine the length of time that the child can be away from school. This leave is unlikely, however, to be granted for the purposes of a family holiday.

Parents can be fined for taking their child on holiday during term time without consent from the school.  Further information may be viewed by selecting the document below.

School Attendance at Walworth

Attendance at Walworth is excellent and with your help and support we intend to keep it this way. Unfortunately like all other schools we do have some rules we must follow if your child is absent. There are many reasons for absence but obviously there are some reasons we should not accept.

If your child is absent contact the school on the first morning of absence with the reason. If this does not happen we will contact you to find out the reason why your child is absent. If you can, though this is difficult, try to give school some idea of how long the absence may last.

If your child comes to school in a taxi, please inform the taxi company.

Sadly, if there are extended periods of absence, without reason, then we must inform the Educational Welfare Officer who would investigate the absence.

Holidays in term time cause disruption to a child’s education and can only be granted by the head teacher in exceptional circumstances. We do expect children to be in school for any statutory testing.

As stated above, attendance at Walworth is excellent and we reward children’s attendance on a regular basis, keep up the good work.

Please contact the school if you wish to discuss this with the Headteacher.
