All parental support is extremely valued by school. We are very aware of, how in the past, formal homework has proved problematic and can cause difficulties within the home. We are very happy to set your child homework, if you so desire.
Recently we have developed homework that is fun using the following website Mathletics & Spelladrone. Matheletics and Spelladrone are an interactive learning website to enhance your child’s learning in Numeracy and Literacy. The children are assigned tasks for them to complete at home. Children access these activities at school also at regular intervals. All children have been given a log on card with their log in details to use at home. We have found that the children are really enjoying using this resource at school. The children can earn points to gain certificates. Each week the children’s scores are reset. We have a competition each week to see who can score the most points in a week. This website is a safe and secure resource and children can play against other children in Live Mathletics to gain more points. We believe this allows children to have fun with these activities while still learning at their level and at their desired speed.
We would love to hear any comments or suggestions from parents/carers regarding Mathletics and also any other websites that you find useful for your childs progress.
If your child does not have access to the internet we can provide an alternative.
All parents and carers are encouraged to maintain all support for their child even after they join us at Walworth. We are principally an education setting and any supportive therapies should be maintained.
It is possible to support your child’s learning in many simple ways using your special time with them. This can be looking and reading books together, or as you are out and about, look at common words and numbers that appear on buildings or in shops. Play simple games like ‘eye spy’, recognising different colours of cars, looking at prices on shop items and many more.
We are sure you have many more suggestions, but whatever it is, make it fun.
