Welcome to Class 9

Class 9 is a Year 5+6 class. In the morning, Literacy and Numeracy are taught taking objectives from these year groups alongside tailor made teaching to fit individual learning needs. Literacy is generally taught based on a class text. In the autumn term it is ‘There is a Pharaoh in my Bath’ by Jeremy Strong Interventions take place using Rapid Reading, spelling, phonics, Nessie, handwriting and Earth Programme.

In the afternoon, lessons are taught using a topic approach. In autumn we are studying Basic art skills and Landscapes in art and Egyptians  in history. We will also be looking at travelling around the world. Spring Term we will be studying The Victorians Summer term we will be studying Crime and Punishment. History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Science and Computing are taught through these topics. Where links cannot be made to the topic, for example programming in Computing, these are taught discretely as is French and RE. Alongside these topics, extra time will also be given to improving Literacy and Numeracy skills before the forthcoming SATs tests. For more information on this, click on the curriculum link.

P.E. is taught on a Monday. Two half terms a year, children attend swimming lessons on a Friday morning. This is done on a rota basis. On a Tuesday morning we have a time slot in the school kitchen. The children have an active role in deciding which food we will make. Children cook a wide variety of sweet and savoury dishes which they can then take home with them.

Every effort is made to make the curriculum as creative and hands on as possible. To support this, a variety of school trips are planned which are designed to stimulate children’s learning, develop their team work and promote new experiences.
