Welcome to Class 8

Class 8 is a Year 6 class. In the morning, English and Manth are taught taking objectives from these year groups alongside tailor made teaching to fit individual learning needs. English is generally taught based on a class text. This autumn our class novel is Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone. Interventions take place using Rapid Reading, Rapid Maths and Phonics where appropriate.

In the afternoon, lessons are taught using a topic approach where possible. This autumn our topic is Ancient Greece. History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and Computing are taught through these topics. Where links cannot be made to the topic, for example in Science, these are taught discretely. For more information on this, click on the curriculum link. During the second half of the spring term and the first half of the summer term the focus will be on improving English & Maths skills before the forthcoming SATs tests.

P.E. is on a Monday afternoon. We will arrange more adventurous offsite visits and these will be arranged throughout the year to match the strengths and interests off the class. We also have a time slot in the school kitchen. Children cook a wide variety of dishes which we encourage them to taste in class.

Every effort is made to make the curriculum as creative and hands on as possible. To support this, a variety of school trips are planned which are designed to stimulate children’s learning, develop their team work and promote new experiences.
